Dementia Care at Home

Dementia changes the day, not the person. Our approach starts from that: keep the rhythms your loved one already knows, so home stays somewhere they recognise even as recall gets less reliable.

Redirection, never correction

Arguing with a person who has dementia does not restore the memory — it just adds distress to it. Our caregivers are trained to meet your loved one where they are today: to go with the version of events they are living in, redirect gently toward something settling, and let the moment pass without a confrontation.

The same applies to repetition. A question asked six times is asked for the first time on each occasion, and it gets answered that way.

Routine as a stabiliser

A predictable day does a lot of the work. Meals, washing, rest, and activity at consistent times reduce the number of decisions your loved one has to make and the number of surprises they have to absorb. We hold that routine steady, including through late-afternoon restlessness and confusion, when agitation tends to peak.

Making the home easier to live in

Small environmental changes prevent a surprising number of incidents, and we will walk the home with you to identify them.

• Clear walkways and removal of trip hazards
• Good, even lighting, especially on stairs and at night
• Labelled essentials and a consistent place for glasses, keys, and remotes
• Familiar photographs and objects kept visible and in reach
• Sensible safeguards on the stove, front door, and medications

Coaching for the family

The techniques that work for our caregivers work for you too, and we would rather share them than keep them. Families get practical guidance on responding to repeated questions, managing resistance to bathing, and handling the moments that are hardest to be ready for.
